A Stop-or-Move Mobility model for PCS networks and its location-tracking strategies

چکیده
This paper considers the location-tracking problem in PCS networks. Solutions to this problem in fact highly depend on the mobility patterns of mobile subscribers [ACM DIAL-M (1999) 72]. In the literature, many works have assumed a simple random walk model, where mobile subscribers always stay in a roaming state and can move in any direction with equal probability. In this paper, we propose a new Stopor-Move Mobility (SMM) model, which is characterized by the following features: ‘transition between stop and move’, ‘infrequent transition’, ‘memory of roaming direction’, and ‘oblivious in different moves’. Based on this mobility model, a static and an adaptive location-tracking Scheme are developed. The schemes only need to keep very little information for each user. Analyses and simulations are provided, which show that the proposed schemes are quite prospective. q 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A Traveling Salesman Mobility Model and Its Location Tracking in PCS Networks
This paper considers the location tracking problem in PCS networks. How a solution to this problem peflorms in fact highly depends on the mobility patterns of users [14]. In this paper; we propose a new Traveling Salesman Mobility (TSM) model, in hope of catching the mobility patterns of a large group of users. The TSM model is characterized by features of “stop-or-move ”, “infrequent transitio...
متن کاملPredictive Distance-Based Mobility Management for PCS Networks
This paper presents a mobile tracking scheme that exploits the predictability of user mobility patterns in wireless PCS networks. Instead of the constant velocity fluid-flow or the random-walk mobility model, a more realistic Gauss-Markov model is introduced, where a mobile’s velocity is correlated in time to a various degree. Based on the Gauss-Markov model, a mobile’s future location is predi...
متن کاملReducing location update and paging costs in a PCS network
Mobility Tracking operations in a personal communication service (PCS) system are signaling consuming. Several strategies have been proposed in the literature to reduce both, the location update (LU) and the paging (PG) costs. In this paper, we propose a location-tracking algorithm called three-location area (TrLA), combined with selective paging. In the TrLA, the mobile terminal (MT) allocates...
متن کاملLocation Tracking in PCS Networks Using Enhanced Caching
In personal communication service (PCS) networks, the user location tracking strategy plays a critical role in ensuring successful mobile communication in any place at any time. The IS-41 scheme in North America and the MAP of the GSM system in Europe are two current standard location tracking schemes. To reduce communication cost for the two basic schemes, several location tracking strategies,...
